Captain Robert Falcon Scott was a Royal Navy officer who led two expeditions to Antarctica. In the first one he discovered the Antarctic Plateau. On the second expedition, he perished with some of his men on the journey back from the South Pole. This commemorative portrait is inspired by a photo taken during the expedition.
“The eternal silence of the great white desert. Cloudy columns of snow drift advancing from the south, pale yellow wraiths, heralding the coming storm, blotting out one by one the sharp-cut lines of the land.” - R.F. Scott
